Don’t be afraid to be intimidating as a football player, because this can really help your game. When opponents think you’re bad and know you’re going to hit them hard, it can change the way they play and cause them to make mistakes. Be known as somebody they really don’t want to face, and you have an advantage before you even show off your real playing ability.

The tips, techniques, schemes and strategies associated with football are ever growing and improving, so there’s always something to learn. When you are mentally strong in football, you don’t necessarily have to be physically strong. Mental abilities are just as important as physical ones.

Work on exercises that’ll boost your overall speed. During a football game, you’ll be asked to sprint a lot. This will definitely tax your body. You’ll be pushed during every game. To get ready for it, build sprints into practice sessions. It’ll help you perform the best that you can come game time. Learning to run through a defender is essential to scoring points. Sprint training exercises help you develop the necessary strength, while lower body building helps develop the power necessary to power through your opponents. As you come toward a defender, lower your hips and use your knees and elbows to absorb the impact of the tackle.

Increase your speed. A good football player needs to be quick on his feet, not only in sprints, but in reaction time and reflexes too. Try adding in some track exercises into your workout regimen and before you know it you will be leaving your opponents behind in the dust. Remember that making a running play is a little different than making a receiving play. You want to take the football from the quarterback with only one hand. You don’t cover it up with both arms until you are about to be tackled. Make sure that you hold onto the ball until you hear the whistle stopping play.

Always be moving during the game. You must move to create space between you and the defensive players. Be sure to be aware of what is going on while moving. You need to be able to know when you have open space to turn and reposition yourself to receive the ball.

Keep a positive attitude at all times when playing football. Even if you feel down about your performance, keep things up beat and focus on the game at hand. A negative attitude will not only pull your play down, but it will also become contagious and infect the attitude of the entire team.

If you want to be a good football player, then you need to constantly work on your agility. Great agility exercises that you can use for regular workouts include jumping rope, jumping over cones and running through tires. If you can, set up yourself a course for each activity for regular use.

If you have good work ethic, it will factor in to the amount of playing time you get. Even though natural talent helps, work ethic is more important to be a true success. Any coach would pick someone who proves to be a success by working hard over someone who is a natural but is also lazy. How much time is remaining on the clock? If your game is almost over and your team has the ball, running the clock out can help guarantee a win.

Pay attention to the time clock. You may have to switch tactics and go for a different move in the last seconds of the game.
